  • Musical Show 2025 & 2026

Over the past few years, BLODS has proudly staged four major musicals Shrek, Elf, School of Rock, and SpongeBob at a combined cost of over £150,000. These shows were tremendous successes, but they highlighted the need for a large audience capacity and sufficient performances to cover such significant expenses, requiring around 2,000 seats per production. Plans for our next musical were complicated by the De La Warr Pavilion’s redevelopment closure in 2026, which left only Easter Weekend dates available, limited to four performances. While we secured the rights to a show, the challenge of reaching the required audience within this restricted schedule, combined with unprecedented local competition from nine other musicals within the same 12-week period, created a financial risk too great for BLODS to take responsibly.

Although stepping back from this production has been a difficult decision, the committee firmly believes it is the right one to protect BLODS’ future. We remain fully committed to staging major musicals again and are now exploring alternative venues, both locally and further afield, to ensure our next production meets the quality and scale our audiences expect. We are immensely proud of what BLODS has achieved and deeply grateful for the support of our members and audiences, whose enthusiasm gives us every confidence that BLODS will rise to this challenge and shine on a new stage.
