Character Breakdown – Our House

Our House is a high-energy ensemble musical requiring strong actors, confident singers and committed storytellers. All roles involve movement and character-driven performance.

Joe Casey

Stage Age: 16–early 20s
The heart of the show. On his 16th birthday, Joe makes a split-second decision that splits his life into two parallel paths. We see both versions unfold — the “good” Joe and the “bad” Joe — but they are played by the same performer.

Joe is charming, funny, impulsive and full of potential. The actor must handle emotional depth, sharp comic timing and sustained stage presence, as Joe rarely leaves the action. Strong vocals and stamina essential.

Sarah

Stage Age: 16–early 20s
Joe’s girlfriend and moral compass. Bright, ambitious and determined to build a better future for herself.

Sarah is strong-willed and intelligent, with warmth beneath her steel exterior. Requires a confident singer who can deliver both tenderness and power, and an actor who can show maturity beyond her years.

Kath Casey

Stage Age: 40s–50s
Joe’s mum. Warm, loving and resilient, carrying the weight of raising her son alone.

Kath is emotionally grounded and forms the emotional core of the story. Needs a strong actor with excellent storytelling ability and heartfelt vocals.

Reecey

Stage Age: Late teens–20s
Joe’s loyal best friend. Quick-witted, streetwise and fiercely protective.

A charismatic performer with strong comic instincts and solid vocals. Must bring energy and authenticity.

Lewis

Stage Age: Late teens–20s
A local lad with swagger and a bit of an edge. Influential in Joe’s “bad” timeline.

Confident stage presence required. Strong character acting and good vocal ability.

Emmo

Stage Age: Late teens–20s
Another of Joe’s friends. Often the peacemaker of the group.

Good ensemble awareness, comic timing and strong vocal blend needed.

Mr Pressman

Stage Age: 40s–60s
A property developer who represents opportunity and ambition in Joe’s “good” path.

Polished, authoritative and driven. Requires a strong actor with commanding presence.

Billie

Stage Age: Late teens–20s
Streetwise, confident and direct. A key figure in Joe’s “bad” path.

Needs a bold performer with strong vocals and attitude.

Angie

Stage Age: 30s–50s
Kath’s friend and confidante. Warm and supportive with comic touches.

Strong character acting and good ensemble singing.

Ensemble

The backbone of the show. The ensemble play friends, family, party guests, city workers and more, driving the energy of the production.

This is a physically active show with significant movement and tight harmonies. Strong singers and committed performers essential.
